Betty J. Allan

October 14, 1922 — January 4, 2020

Betty J. Allan, devoted wife to the late Robert G. Allan; loving mother to Vivienne Carlson and the late Christopher Robert Allan; dear grandmother to Kristen Wilson and Ryan Carlson. Betty passed away peacefully January 4, 2020 at age 97. She was born in Erith, Kent, England on October 14, 1922. She worked as a phone operator during World War II at Cable and Wireless in London, England, as a kindergarten teacher at Christ Episcopal Church in Winchester, VA for 15 years and as a receptionist at the Winchester Surgical Clinic for over 10 years.

Betty lived a very long, full and most interesting life spanning almost ten decades. She had many a story to tell from surviving the "Blitzkrieg" of World War II, living in war-torn London, England, coming to America on the Queen Elizabeth I in 1958, raising a family in Winchester, Virginia, moving to Cincinnati, Ohio after the 911 tragedy, to recrossing the Atlantic on the Queen Mary 2 in 2008. She loved her "tea", stuffed bears and good conversation.

Interment will take place in Winchester, Virginia as well as in Norfolk, England.
