VANDEWALLE
Betty J., passed away on January 2nd at the age of 97.
Ms. Vandewalle was a kindergarten teacher at Kilgour Elementary School for 38 years.
After her retirement, she volunteered at Children’s Hospital, to aid the 5-year-old’s who were long term patients and who missed school for a month or more. She also volunteered at her church and was specifically faithful at making sure all the children she met had books to read. Once she moved into Marjorie P. Lee she donated over 250 children’s books to Crayons to Computers.
She was a resident of Marjorie P. Lee and was well-loved by the staff and aides.
She is survived by longtime friend, Jean Kareth, 12 nieces and nephews, including three very special nieces, Sr. Patricia “Patti” Rice, RSM, Jill DePriest, and Joy Marcum.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 11th at 10:30AM at Thomas-Justin Memorial, 7500 Montgomery Rd. (45236) Kenwood. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park. The family has asked that everyone wear masks for both the funeral service and the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 8221 Miami Rd. (45243) Madeira, where she was a member for over 50 years, or to Crayons to Computers at Crayons2Computers.org, or by mailing a donation to 1350 Tennessee Ave. (45229).
