Bonnie S. Smith

Bonnie Sue Smith (ne Ferriel) of Cincinnati, OH passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at Kenwood Terrace. She was born May 9, 1943 in Cincinnati, OH to Robert and Mildred Ferriel. She was the first-born of their two children.

Bonnie grew up in Terrace Park and graduated from Mariemont High School in 1960. Bonnie went to Memphis State University, Carson-Newman University, University of Cincinnati, and Xavier University where she obtained a teaching degree. She went on to teach elementary at Milford, then later in life taught preschool at the Mariemont Community Church where she warmed the hearts of many children and parents.

While in college, Bonnie became a Alpha Delta Pi member. Bonnie traveled to Europe in her college days, experiencing Swinging London and other cities.

Eventually the late Lester Smith came into her life, and they married. They had three children: Brent Charles, Elizabeth Clare, and Bradley Durham. Bonnie has two grandchildren: Ellese Cailin and Adda Keegan. Bonnie also has a daughter-in-law, Rachel Johnson-Smith. Her sister, Peggy Boyer, survives her.

In her years, Bonnie became fond of the water and often could be found basking by the pool side at Mariemont or a local YMCA. The introduction of the microwave to her life allowed her to find a joy in easy cooking.

Her parents owned boats over the years. The Ohio River and Gulf of Mexico were heavily explored in those times.

Bonnie was a caring, open-armed soul. She was very forgiving and exemplified unconditional love. She had a terrific sense of humor. Her smile said it all.

You could always find her with vitamin c in her neck in July, and in the hood in the fall. She had an affinity for talking and was nicknamed the BNN (Bonnie News Network).

The family will welcome friends to the Memorial Service for Bonnie on Tuesday, June 27th at 10:00AM at Mariemont Community Church, 3908 Plainville Rd. (45227).

The burial will take place on Friday, June 30th at 10:30AM at Spring Grove Cemetery.
