David A. Collins

June 6, 1947 — August 24, 2024

David Arthur Collins, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, community leader, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home on August 24, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of service and love.

Born on June 6, 1947, in Rockville, MD, David was the beloved son of Arthur Samuel Collins and Norma Elizabeth Waterholder. David spent his early years in Deer Park, where he attended St. Saviour Elementary School. He was a proud member of the second graduating class of Moeller High School in 1965.

Following high school, he pursued higher education at the University of Cincinnati, where he studied for two years. It was during his time at Chrysler Credit in Hartwell that David met the love of his life, LaVerne Rall. Their connection blossomed, leading them to elope in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, in 1969. The couple made their first home together in Deer Park in 1971, where they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams.

David dedicated 50 years of his professional life to So-Low Environmental Company, where his commitment and expertise significantly contributed to the company's success. His work ethic and dedication were exemplary, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.

David's commitment to his community was evident from the beginning. In 1972, he joined the Sycamore Deer Park Jaycees, an organization dedicated to raising funds for charity. For 12 years, David played an active role in various initiatives, including the renowned WSAI haunted houses that delighted and entertained many for years. In 1983, David's passion for public service led him to fill a vacancy on the Republican ticket, marking the beginning of a long and distinguished career in local government.

Over the years, he held numerous positions on the Deer Park City Council, including President of Council for 16 years and Mayor for 14 years. His leadership and dedication helped shape Deer Park into the vibrant community it is today.

David leaves behind his beloved wife, LaVerne, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. He was the proud father of three daughters: Angela Lynn Collins (Glen Rocco), Meredith Ann Combs (Darin), and Kimberly Norene Handley (Eugene). David was also a loving grandfather to six cherished grandchildren: Morgan Lynn Konkle, Payton McKenzie Konkle, Grant Austin Combs, Parker James Konkle, Harrison Edward Handley, and Haelyn Norene Handley.

David Arthur Collins will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his tireless service to his community, his long and dedicated career at So-Low Environmental Company, and his warm and generous spirit. He leaves behind a family and community that will forever be grateful for the love, leadership, and legacy he has left behind.
