Evelyn Grimsley Lindner, Age 79.
We celebrate the life of Evelyn Grimsley Lindner, who passed away peacefully, in the presence of her beloved family, on May 18, 2026.
Evelyn was born in Philadelphia, PA, to Rebecca Ann Holt and John MacAdam Grimsley. There, the family lived a picturesque 1950s life—a home on Philadelphia’s Main Line, a large circle of cousins, aunts and uncles, and summers on the shore in Cape May, NJ. Evelyn cherished these early years, forever holding the city of her birth, and her family there, close to her heart.
It was during this time that Evelyn and her siblings tragically lost their father, still a young man, to cancer. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Cincinnati, OH. There, Evelyn attended Indian Hill High School where she met the young man who would eventually become her husband. Evelyn and Richard, or Lyn and Dick to family and friends, were married in Cincinnati on September 2, 1967, andremained together until Richard’s passing on January 31, 2022.
Throughout her life, Evelyn said motherhood was the greatest gift she’d ever received. And if motherhood is where she found purpose, then being a grandmother is where she found joy. Emmie, as she was known to her grandkids, was always ready with a grilled cheese, a big hug, the world’s greatest “detaching thumb” trick, and, as a testament to her impeccable manners and education, theoccasional grammar lesson.
In addition to her husband, Evelyn is preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Elizabeth Lindner Walker, who passed from early-onset Alzheimer’s disease in 2024.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Darby Lindner Rouse and Molly MacAdam Lindner; her son, Richard Edward Lindner; her sisters, Christine Grimsley Simons and Suzanne Grimsley Malloni; her brother, John MacAdam Grimsley; and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Armstrong Chapel United Methodist Church, 5125 Drake Road, Cincinnati (45243) at 11:00 AM. There will be a reception at the church immediately following.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers, family members, and dear friends whoexpressed such love and kindness in the last years of Evelyn’s life.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Evelyn’s memory to either the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Cincinnati Chapter or the National Multiple SclerosisSociety, Ohio Chapter
