John attended Nativity Grade School, St. Xavier High School, and Xavier University. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, John traveled throughout Europe to experience many adventures. Upon his return home to Pleasant Ridge, he reconnected with a friend to co-found the local chapter of the Junior Officer and Professional Association (JOPA) where John served as president. It was a huge success from the first event in January 1967 throughout its history garnering over 10,000 members. Soon after the first event, John met Marilyn Burns and they were married on December 30, 1967.
John was devoted to his family, his faith, his country and All Saints Church. He enjoyed traveling around the country and abroad with his family and friends. He was an avid golfer and bridge and poker player. He maintained a healthy and active lifestyle. John possessed an outstanding work ethic, a quick-wit sense of humor, a quiet yet powerful strength, and the gift of kindness.
John was proud to work for Cincinnati Insurance Companies and of the work he did there. He was dedicated and determined from day one and retired after 25 years with achieving his role as the Life Field Director. He then spent time with his family including his grandpup Zeke and friends, continued staying healthy and active, said the rosary every day, went to All Saints Church mass each week, and did volunteer work on a weekly basis.
John's faith was his beacon in which he demonstrated in every aspect of his life. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of a donation to a charity of your choice. The family invites you to share memories of and photos with John below. They will continue to post photos in the Guestbook in the following weeks.
