Kenneth Barthel

Kenneth E. Barthel of Cincinnati Ohio passed away Saturday, February 24 at the age of 80 surrounded by his family.  He was born on November 8, 1937, raised in Cincinnati, and was a member of the E. T. Carson Lodge #598 F&AM, Scottish Rite, York Rite, and Syrian Temple.  After enlisting in the United States Navy and a tour of duty, he married his wife Pauline.  They have been married 59 years.

He attended the University of Cincinnati, studied Mechanical Engineering and began his career working for the American Can Company as a draftsman.  He then joined the Ford Motor Company in Quality Control for the next 32 years before retiring.

He enjoyed his family, friends, cars, photography, model railroad, and designing/building/flying his model airplanes.  He was active in the three model airplane clubs; Queen City U-Control Club, Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA), and North American Speed Society (NASS).  When his sons joined the Boy Scouts, Ken spent many years as an Assistant Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster, Troop Committee member, and went on several High Adventure Trips to the Philmont Scout Ranch and canoeing in Canada.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his father: Edwin R Barthel, mother: Mary (nee Parrish) Barthel, sister: Lorraine (nee Barthel) Price, brothers: Edwin II, Russell, and Keith Barthel, and son: Edwin IV.  He is survived by his wife: Pauline (nee Parker) Barthel, sons: Kenneth R Barthel (Keith Yarbrough), Daniel E (Angela) Barthel, nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends.

Visitation will be held from 4-8pm Friday March 2, and a service at 11am Saturday March 3 at Thomas-Justin Funeral Home, 7500 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati Ohio.  Graveside services with Military Honors will immediately follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children 3229 Burnet Avenue, Cincinnati Ohio 45229 http://shrinershospitals.org/donate or Boy Scouts of America, Dan Beard Council 10078 Reading Road, Cincinnati Ohio 45241. http://danbeard.org
