Leo "Tom" Thomas Dougherty, Jr.

January 12, 1926 — October 10, 2023

DOUGHERTY, L. Thomas “Tom” was the beloved husband of the late Annelies (nee Müller) Dougherty. Cherished father of Thomas (Pam) Dougherty, Kathleen (Bruce) McFarland, and Dennis (Lynn)Dougherty. Devoted grandfather of Chris (Jodi), Jeff, Kaitlin, Zachary (Brianna), Brian (Anne), Tim (Christy), and Nick (Grace). Great Grandfather of Blake, Kendall, Raegan, Adelaide, Wells, and Liam. Loving brother of Donald Dougherty and the late James Dougherty. He was born in Peoria, IL to the late Leo T. and Katherine (nee Wagner) Dougherty.


After graduating from Purcell high school, Tom served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. The Merchant Marines were considered civilian service, until the United States entered the war, where they were nationalized. They became the branch of the military that supplied the lines, transporting supplies and personnel to the Allies. During the Korean War Tom served in the US Army, where he found himself spending some time stationed in Germany. It is here that he met Annelies H. Müller. They married in 1953.


Tom passed away on Tuesday, October 10th at the age of 96. Friends are invited to visit with his family on Wednesday, October 18th from 10AM until the time of the Blessing, 11AM at Thomas-Justin Memorial, 7500 Montgomery Rd. (45236) Kenwood. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
