Marilyn Jane Whedon

October 30, 1932 — March 8, 2024

Marilyn Jane Whedon (nee Sargent) passed from this world Friday March 8 after a great run of 91 years. Most prominent in her life were a great faith in God, the gift of sharing joy with others and love of family.


Visitation will be on Saturday, April 27th, 12PM until the time of Memorial Service 2PM, at Maderia-Silverwood Presbyterian Church, 8000 Miami Ave. (45243).


Born October 30, 1932 to Arthur and Dorothy Sargent of Oakwood in Dayton, OH, she was Queen of the May at Harmon Elementary and Prom Queen at Oakwood High. “Sarge” studied education at Miami University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.


After rekindling a friendship with Oakwood classmate Pete “Caveman” Whedon, the two fell in love and were married 64 years. ‘Sarge’ and ‘Cave’ completed a loop living in Cincinnati, Denver, Chicago, Syracuse, Parkersburg, WV and back to Cincinnati, adding daughter Karen and sons Phillip and John along the way. Marilyn was proud of her years volunteering for the Junior League and the Parkersburg Arts Center.


She could win many ‘brush with greatness’ contests having met Frank Sinatra, Robert Redford, Dustin Hoffman and Ronald Reagan. Among her greatest loves were her children and granddaughters, the Parkersburg Bridge Club, her church families, her candle business and her Cincinnati Reds. Marilyn was predeceased by son Phillip, daughter Karen, and husband Peter. She is survived by son John, granddaughters Lucy and Lila Whedon, sister Carole Schindler and brother Frank Sargent.


In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the Reds Community Fund, . Reds Community Fund, 100 Joe Nuxhall Way, Cincinnati, OH (45202).
