Merilee Turner

November 24, 1967 — May 7, 2014

Merilee Black Turner, age 46, of Mariemont passed away May 7th after a courageous struggle with a long-term illness. She was the beloved wife of Charles William (Chip) Turner, and much-loved mother of Laura Elizabeth (Ellie) and Benjamin William. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Louise Black. She is also survived by her brothers William (Janet) Black and Kevin (Margaret) Black of Cincinnati and her sister Laura (Neven) Gardner of Lexington, Kentucky. Merilee is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand nephews and grand nieces. After graduating from Indian Hill High School, Merilee attended Miami University where she received a Bachelors Degree in Education. Merilee went on to teach English at Guardian Angels Junior High School in Cincinnati and later at St. Joan of Arc Middle School in Evanston, Illinois. When Chip and Merilee moved to Glen Ellyn, Illinois Merilee became active in the Glen Ellyn Newcomers Club and the St. Petronille School Parents Group. She also taught Religious Education at St. Petronille's Church. She formed many close and enduring friendships with her Forest Avenue neighbors and tennis friends in Glen Ellyn. When the family moved to Mariemont, Merilee attended St. Gertrude's Church in Madeira where she taught Religious Education. She also volunteered her time and talent for helping people by becoming a CASA volunteer with ProKids of Cincinnati. Merilee enjoyed most of all being a wife to Chip and a devoted mother to Ellie and Ben. Her quirky sense of humor, love of life and determination to find happiness every single day will be very much missed. Merilee was a delight to be with and a joy to know; her kindness and sweet personality will always be remembered. She was dearly loved and will be missed by her family and many friends. Her visitation will be held Friday, May 9th from 3-8PM at Thomas-Justin Memorial, 7500 Montgomery Rd. (45236) Kenwood. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, May 10th at 9:30AM at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, 7630 Shawnee Run Rd. (45243) Madeira. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. If desired, donations are asked to be directed to ProKids, 2605 Burnet Ave. (45219). www.prokids.org.
