Nhut Nguyen

Nhut Hong Nguyen, age 80, passed peacefully in his sleep in his home in Cincinnati, OH, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease on September 17th, 2025. Nhut was born on March 8th, 1946, in Tra Vinh, in southern Vietnam, to father Xuong Nguyen and mother Pho Thi Le, the sixth child of eight siblings. He was remembered as a man of integrity, kindness, and deep devotion to his family and Buddha. Nhut was a graduate of Petrusky High School, then attended and graduated from the National Academy of Administration, Officer Course 13 of Saigon in 1968. Following this, he proudly served his people as Vice-District Chief of Vung Liem District of the Republic of South Vietnam, Vinh Long Province, until the fall of Saigon.

On April 30th, 1975, during the Fall of South Vietnam, due to his political career, he was imprisoned for five years by the northern Vietnamese communist regime. After his release, with his family, he attempted to escape his home country, much like many of his fellow countrymen during the Vietnamese Diaspora. However, he was captured and imprisoned for another two years. He suffered greatly during this time but found his devout faith in the Buddha, which helped him to survive his imprisonment. In 1986, Nhut immigrated to the United States with his first wife, Nhi Nguyen, and daughter, Lylian Khanh Nguyen, beginning the journey of rebuilding his life in a new country. After traveling, he eventually settled in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he worked for many years on the meat packaging line—first at Khan’s, later Hillshire Farms, and eventually Sara Lee—before retiring in 2015. Throughout his years in America, Nhut worked diligently to provide for his family and to ensure a better future for his children. Though he built a new life, he remained deeply connected to his Vietnamese heritage and Buddhist faith. Through his humility, resilience, and quiet strength, he became a source of guidance and inspiration to his loved ones.On March 12, 1996, Nhut remarried Phung Thi Long Tran, and together they raised two children, son Minh Hong Nguyen and daughter Van Hong Nguyen. He dedicated himself to their upbringing with unwavering devotion, continuing to embody the values of family, faith, and perseverance. In retirement, Nhut embraced a quieter pace of life. He found joy in practicing his Buddhist faith, engaging with American political discourse, watching soccer and football, and tending to his beloved garden. These simple pleasures reflected the harmony of tradition and adaptation that defined his life. Nhut loved his children, Lylian, Minh, and Van, very much, frequently imparting many of the lessons he learned through his storied life to them, supporting them as best he knew. After his passing, Nhut is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Phung, and his children, Lylian, Minh, and Van, as well as his son-in-law, Peter, and his cherished granddaughter, Adelyn. His legacy of love, resilience, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all his loved ones.
