Russell W. McMurry, 93, of Milford, OH, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026. Born in Austin, TX, during the Great Depression, he learned the value of hard work early.
A proud University of Texas alumnus, he began his career working in the oil rigs. He learned the oil business from the ground up, and within three years made a remarkable leap from the oil fields of West Texas to Manhattan’s corporate world, building an international career selling industrial valves and pipeline equipment.
His career took him across five continents, and the larger-than-life stories he told his children about his adventures - and even some narrow escapes - still bring shared laughter when the family gathers today.
In his later years, Russ was happiest at the bridge table, where he led groups at both Pinebrook of Milford and Marielders. Having made the Pinebrook community his home, he served as an ambassador for many years.
Russell was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley, and his son, James King. He is survived by his children Kyle, Kyndle, and Kenneth (Donna) McMurry; his grandchildren Kaitlin McMurry (Daniel Shore), Taylor (Steve) MacVeigh, Connor, Magali, Luke, Jack, and Karys McMurry; and his great-grandchildren, Helena MacVeigh and Luca Shore.
A celebration of life will be held on July 12, 2026, at 7809 Shawnee Run, Cincinnati, OH from 1 to 3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Russell’s memory, online to Lighthouse Youth & Family Services or by mail at: Developmental Department, 401 East McMillan Street, Cincinnati, OH (45206).
