Salvatore Giovanni Rose - OBITUARY
November 6, 2002 – June 27, 2016
Salvatore Giovanni Rose went to his eternal reward on June 27, 2016, after suffering for seven days from a ruptured brain aneurysm. During that week at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Sal was fortified by the Sacrament of the Sick, an Apostolic Blessing, and countless other prayers. His witness in suffering and in his life encouraged and inspired people from all over the world to pray, to convert, and to come together in faith communities. Sal also received the Sacrament of Confirmation in his hospital bed; he took the name Charbel, after a powerful Lebanese saint.
Sal was preparing to enter 8th grade at St. Gertrude School in Madeira. He was a member of the St. Gertrude Bulldogs’ football, basketball, and track teams. Sal was also a nearly straight-A student, a great writer, a member of the St. Gertrude Power of the Pen team, and served Mass on Sundays and at school Masses on Thursdays. Sal enjoyed reading fiction, especially classic stories portraying the battle between good and evil such as J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia.
While in hospital, Sal was accepted as the first member of the Class of 2021 at Archbishop Moeller High School. He is survived by his parents, Michael and Barbara; his brother Lorenzo (10); his sisters, Marcella (21), Madalena (19), and Anna Maria (16); grandparents Ronald and Mary Jo Rose and Robert and Dolores Rolfes, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at St. Gertrude Parish Center in Madeira from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Gertrude Church at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 30.
In lieu of flowers, donations to help defray the cost of medical care and burial can be made to the Sal Rose Benefit Fund at any Fifth Third Bank or online athttps://www.gofundme.com/salstrong
