It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Vincent Martin Igoe, Jr. on April 11, 2026. Known fondly as Vince, Vinny, V-man, and Beans, he was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on March 24, 1966, to Vincent Martin Igoe Sr. and Carol Ann Igoe.
Vince was a pioneer for the rights of people with disabilities, claiming his place in the world simply by showing up. Born at a time when children with Down Syndrome were often institutionalized, Vince’s parents chose a different path, supporting him to live a full and visible life. Because of that choice, Vince became part of a trailblazing generation that secured access to public education, fair employment, and independent housing that many people with disabilities enjoy today. Though he may not have seen himself as an activist, his kindness and humor won over a society with little experience with people with disabilities, making his community better just by being in it and showing us all what is possible.
A highly recognizable figure in Cincinnati, Vince spent his last 20 years as a grocery store bagger, greeting every customer and coworker with a genuine smile. He never met a stranger he didn’t consider a friend. He loved music and dancing, and he shared jokes freely with everyone he met.
Vince is survived by his mother, Carol Ann Igoe; his brother, James Igoe (Gladness Msumanje, Erick Msumanje, Vincent Msumanje); his brother, Bob Igoe (Elizabeth Igoe, Jimmy Igoe, Bobby Igoe Jr.); his brother, William Bayard Igoe (Anne K. Igoe, Jonathan Igoe, Annie Igoe); and his sister, Carol Agnes Igoe (Alexi Thomas Igoe Harrouz). He was preceded in death by his father, Vincent Igoe, Sr., his sister, Anne Igoe, and his roommate and friend of 16 years, Michael Byes.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 25, at 10:00 AM at St. Francis Church Friary, 1615 Vine St, Cincinnati, OH 45202, followed immediately by a traditional Irish wake at the Irish Heritage Center, 3905 Eastern Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45226. All are welcome to help celebrate Vince’s well-lived life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vincent's memory to Living Arrangements for the Developmentally Disabled (LADD)
